Experiences
Odyssey Academy students have a vast number of opportunities and experiences to participate in beginning as early as prekindergarten!
We believe that learning should be memorable, fun and connected to everyday life. Enriching experiences help students to connect in a meaningful way to what they are learning. These experiences help to shape and guide students into their greatest potential.
Field Trips
All students experience at least two field trips each school year. Field trip locations and activities have included The Grand Opera House in Galveston, Moody Gardens, the Houston Zoo, museums, historical locations, nature treks (hiking, kayaking), and various cultural events. High school students regularly team up with international students to work together to complete mock missions and further their knowledge of NASA space programs.
Educational Travel
Each grade level grouping (elementary, middle, and high) have extended educational trips that they participate in. Each year Odyssey Academy fifth graders travel to camp and complete science based activities. Ninth and tenth graders travel to Washington D.C. and Colonial Williamsburg to explore United States history, government, and monuments. High School students travel for college visits twice each school year, exploring what opportunities await them after graduation. Students participate in “college life” experiences, like sports and arts performances, in addition to touring the campuses and getting admissions information.
Our high-schoolers have visited the University of Houston, Rice University, Texas A&M and Texas A&M – Galveston, the University of Texas in Austin, Sam Houston State University, as well as community colleges across the local area and state. International travel is also available for students through participating in the World Cultures Club.
Clubs and Sports
Each semester, teachers offer meaningful clubs to help students find their voice. The club experiences vary each semester and year, but have included: robotics, cheer, dance, running, board games, Legos, art, and more. Students can also lead and participate in various formal organizations including: National Junior Honor Society, National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and National Technical Honor Society, The Leader In Me Society, Student Council, and Scholarships and Service Club. Odyssey Academy also has a vibrant sports program where students can participate in basketball, volleyball, soccer, and cross-country teams.
High School Activities
High School students hone their leadership skills by helping to plan and carry out district wide events like fundraisers and Prom. High School students also have bi-monthly social events that allow them to connect with one another in venues outside of the academic setting.
