Free/Reduced Lunch Price Expires Oct. 1 If No New 2020-21 Application

As we enter our second nine weeks of the 2020-21 school year, our students’ well-being and success continues to remain the top priority at Odyssey Academy. Our commitment includes ensuring your child has access to nutritious food at school daily. Our dedicated staff are working diligently during this pandemic, serving meals to students enrolled in our district regardless if they are learning virtually or in person. We do not want your children to miss a meal; therefore, we are providing curbside meals for pick up daily located in the front office of Odyssey Galveston. Curbside meal lunch rates will depend on eligibility status.

If your student(s) were eligible for free or reduced price lunch during the 2019-2020 School Year, that same eligibility rolled over for the first 30 days of this school year (2020/2021 School Year). As of Oct. 1, 2020, any student(s) that does not have a current 2020-21 lunch application on file will become full-pay status and will begin to accrue a negative lunch account balance if funds are not deposited into the account. Breakfast is free for all Galveston campus students regardless of status. However, lunch will cost $3.00 for full pay students and $.40 for reduced students per day.

Although many of our virtual learners are not eating on campus, we would still like to request for our parents to complete an application for free/reduced price meals. Our goal is to have 100% of our students to have an application on file this year. The amount of students who qualify for free or reduced price meals helps with funding academic programs for our school, therefore it is important for us to reach this 100% goal. If you believe you do not qualify for free or reduced price benefits or if you want to refuse benefits, we ask that you please still complete an application and check the box that reads “I do not qualify for free or reduced price benefits.” This will let us know not to continue reaching out to you to complete an application.

To complete the meals application for the 2020/2021 School Year, please visit myschoolapps.com, or visit odysseyacademy.com and click on child nutrition. We can also send an application home with your student or we can mail an application to your home. If you have any questions, please email me at dscott@odyacad.com or Melanie Tovar at mtovar@odyacad.com, and we can email the application directly to you. This is the best way to get in contact with us.  Please help us reach our goal of having 100% applications complete this school year.

Continued Distance Learning for Wed., Sept. 23 w/In-Person Learning Resuming on Thur., Sept. 24

Due to continued street flooding and anticipated additional rain tonight from Tropical Storm Beta, we will continue with OA Distance Learning for all students tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23.

We will plan to resume in-person learning as originally planned on Thursday, September 24.

Please know our OA family’s primary concern is for the safety of our students, staff, and families.  We know some of our OA family members have taken water in their homes.  Please keep them in your thoughts.  Also, please stay in touch with your teacher(s) to let them know how you are doing.

Please remember, if you are experiencing any internet and/or device issues, students can do offline activities like reading, writing a reading response, working on math facts, etc. all at home.  Remember that the best way to document attendance is through itsLearning, but if you cannot access itLearning, please email your teacher what you have worked on today.  If you do not have access to email, you can even call the school and leave a voicemail with your student’s name, grade, teacher, and what learning activity they did for the day.  Also, at a later point in time, if you notice that your student’s attendance is not accurate in the Parent Portal, then you can complete the Attendance Correction Form found on our website under Resources and COVID Protocols as well as in the Take Home Tuesday weekly email.

Again, your OA family is thinking of you all and hope you are able to stay safe and dry.
